There is a very scornful response to this posting on facebook... so... let me respond to the Dont repost this worksheet because person... And here are the 5 reasons given to not repost angry moms worksheet (by the way, KUDOS to Angry Mom!): 1. Credentials are not a trump card. 2. It is probably misinterpreted. 3. It is probably not “Common Core”. 4. Anecdotal evidence is not research data. 5. Teachers need our support, not our scorn. If I may respond to the responders.... I am the college professor who receives your common core/no child left behind students. 1) I am so glad credentials are not a trump card. It fits with the new thinking in the United States that education is a worthless commodity, and that the more time, effort and years someone has put into improving their lives and minds via education, the less trustworthy we are. Thanks for that. 2) I see no misinterpretation here. Many students arrive at the doors of colleges unable to write a sentence properly, let alone an essay. They cannot do math on a calculator in many cases, but supposedly, I am misinterpreting that Common Core doesnt work. Really? 3) Oh yes, it is common core, trust the millions of parents who have seen these worksheets. 4) How much anecdotal evidence do you need? It isnt anecdotal anymore when we have millions of examples! 5) I agree with this one, but supporting Common Core is NOT the same as supporting teachers. These are worksheets the teachers are forced to use. Anecdotally speaking, from my lowly place as a PhD holder in Educational Psychology, Ill put those credentials up as a trump card if that is what it takes for the government to get a clue! Repost this worksheet at will, because obviously someone needs to see it!
