There is a wonderful truth conveyed in the retelling of the story of Gideon and the Midianites...The Lord told him to separate out 300 men from among the people to go to battle against thousands of Midianites...and here is the point... if the Lord sent the whole army of Israel against this enemy they would think that their own hand had won them the victory and would not have realized that God had given them the victory. Therefore he sent out 300 men against thousands..This is a central truth to our relationship with God. When we are doing so well in life do we think it is our own hand that has won us this victory, or do we give the glory to God? The wisdom of God says in Proverbs 3:6 In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your path... So you say...what about our defeats..are we to include God in our defeats? God is not in our defeats... but the lesson of our defeats will commend us to God. Just like the Israelites of old we can learn from our mistakes by taking a moment to inspect what we expect in order to find out why we were defeated, so that we can be sure to walk in victory, next time. Life is filled with ups and downs, victories and defeats, and minor adjustments can often renegotiate our direction so that we end up hitting our target instead of missing the target. We often label ourselves as failures and leave it at that instead of investigating the cause of the negative effect in order to renegotiate our strategy so that we come out blessed and smelling like a rose. God is for us and wants the best for us so we need to look within as well as without to see if there is a cause that has led to our defeat. As one song taken from scriptures said... Search me, O God, and know my heart today, Try me, O Savior, know my thoughts, I pray; See if there be some wicked way in me; Cleanse me from every sin, and set me free. I praise Thee, Lord, for cleansing me from sin; Fulfill Thy word and make me pure within; Fill me with fire, where once I burned with shame; Grant my desire to magnify Thy name. Lord, take my life, and make it wholly Thine; Fill my poor heart with Thy great love divine; Take all my will, my passion, self and pride; I now surrender, Lord, in me abide. O Holy Ghost, revival comes from Thee; Send a revival, start the work in me; Thy Word declares Thou wilt supply our need; For blessings now, O Lord, I humbly plead. This will get you back on the track for the internal perspective then the outside will take care of itself with proper inspection and detection..in Jesus name.
