There is an ancient story in India concerning Raja Bhartrihari. The King lamented that his wife Pingala had died. Gorakshanath came into his place and dropped his bowl which broke and began crying and wouldnt stop. The King pleaded he would create hundreds of new ones and that Yogi should stop crying. Goraksha then said he wanted his old bowl back. The King thought this was nonsense, as he had lost his wife. Goraksha then said - how so, as the King had numerous wives, just as Goraksha could have bowls - why did he lament over one which was gone forever? Goraksha further stated how the bowl and the queen were also part of the same consciousness and created 25 forms of the Kings wife, Pingala out of her ashes, of which the King couldnt distinguish the real one! Then Raja then became Gorakshanathas disciple, having learnt his lesson. This was simply as the Raja had formally been his disciple in a past-life also is the lesson here. Great Gurus, transcending time and space appear throughout history to bring back their near and dear sadhaks when they fall due to karma, even in the higher worlds! --Ved Kovid, Durgadas
