There is growing chatter that one possible solution to the shutdown stalemate is the passage of a short-term Continuing Resolution and debt ceiling allowing Congress and the President breathing space to negotiate a longer term budget and debt deal. The House began moving legislation to create another "Super Committee" that would be focused on addressing spending and deficit reduction. While the proposal is expected to pass the House, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D- Nevada) will not take up the bill and stick to his demand for a clean Continuing Resolution (CR) and Debt Ceiling increase. Also, the Senate is moving to try and pass a "clean" CR and send it to the House. If passed in the Senate (which is likely) it will die a quick death in the House. What about all those reporters flapping that Speaker Boehner has enough votes to pass a "clean" CR now? He only needs 18 or so Republicans to cross over. But if he did this, then he would not have enough votes to pass a pass a debt ceiling increase. Also , there is growing chatter that one possible solution to the stalemate is the passage of a short-term Continuing Resolution allowing Congress and the President breathing space to negotiate a longer term budget and debt ceiling increase. The question hanging: will Boehner "break the glass in case of fire" and call in the chits to make sure enough Republicans pass the debt ceiling increase? Ki via protected source
