There is indeed a powerful spirituality hidden (or embedded) is Salsa music (not including Salsaton, Commercial salsa or Salsa romantica)... Its quite surprising that many people with no connection at all with Africa or Afro-Cuban music can feel this spirituality when the right songs are played by a DJ, as it happened last night @ Above 11, with a female salsa dancer/instructor from Slovakia! Here is Celia Cruz singing Elegua Quiere Tambo (Elegua wants drums)... The original name of the Deity in Benin was Legba and when people started to refer to it in Spanish, they added the article El (The) and it became EL-LEGUA...So Elegua is a Deity that represents the Crossroads of life, good luck, openings, blessings...Its honoured at the beginning and end of ceremonies... When Celia Cruz chants to Elegua, she uses some words from Fongbe (dominant language of South and Central Benin), like wedewede or gbede gbede (forever) are repeated... Isnt it amazing? This is Elegua Quiere Tambo by la Reina de la Salsa! Enjoy! https://youtube/watch?v=jIdHdA8MlIc
