There is no “Fun” in Fundraising Do you hate to have your mailbox stuffed with solicitations? Calls that interrupt dinner? Knocks on the door to sell tiny cans of popcorn and candy that you’ll never (or shouldn’t) eat? Don’t blame the poor charity. Every nonprofit struggles to raise the funds it takes to bring services to the public. Non-profit doesn’t mean no money is needed or there is a “magic money” tree in the backyard. Every charity has overhead costs: rent, utilities, phone, internet, registration fees, staff salaries and benefits…all the things it takes to run any other business. Most grants will not pay any of these overhead costs. These have to come from public support. And raising these funds can have very, very high costs…mailing, printing, handling, phone centers. Many of these forms of fundraising only provide the charity with 10- 20 cents of every dollar donated. So how do you show your favorite charity you care and want to support what they are doing? Donate on line! The charity receives the majority of your gift immediately. Only a small amount for merchant fees is deducted (about 2 %) and the rest goes to support the charity’s programs and services. On line donation is also worry free. Your charge information is protected through web site security systems. Now let’s test how easy this is. We will receive notification of your donation within a few minutes and your funds will be deposited directly into the BDRC account. It took me 15 minutes to write this and put it on line on our Facebook. Now that is how you make “fun” raising fun. I’ll let you know how it works out.
