There is no doubt that Facebook is creating a new kind of environment where things have become difficult for relationships. There are many stories where people breakup because their partner changed their relationship status to ‘single’ or due to some immoral photo or due to some unexpected communication with another person. Several aspects of the human behaviour have changed because of the way people interact on this social media site, and it is also affecting relationships in ways that couldn’t have been predicted earlier. Here is a list of the features offered by Facebook that are related to relationships and make an impact. The relationship-history tracker enables users to view the relationship history between a two friends or even between a couple. Even though it is charming, it can also be frightening. You can see all the interactions that have taken place between two friends, such as tagged photos and wall posts. If you are serious about your married life or about your boyfriend/girlfriend, this feature is a good reason to avoid Facebook. For example, if you are a couple who started out as facebook friends, people would find it thrilling to view your gradual journey of coming close together. Your friends can stalk you this way, even if they intend to create a reminder to the way you started your relationship. Another way Facebook has become a powerful player in relationships is that it makes people feel jealous. Recently, a study was conducted to find out the impact that the increase in information access on people’s contacts had no relationships. According to this study it was found that out of the over 300 participants, more than 19% were jealous and were busy monitoring their spouse’s behaviour because it was possible to find lots of information about them. Does that give you a signal why you should avoid Facebook? In addition, another 10% of the participants also stated that it was difficult for them to put a limit to the amount of time they spent on their spouse’s profile. In the past, there were fixed boundaries to relationships. If your partner informed you that he/ she would be away for the weekend, there was nothing more to be known. However, today you can check your partner’s Facebook updates and know what they are doing for the weekend. Facebook has certainly made things unhealthy in the world of relationships, and it is clearly leaving a negative impact on the ways things are turning up. Breaking up on Facebook is an ever-growing, but regrettable trend. Recently a survey was conducted on 1,000 users and 25% of them admitted that their relationship ended on Facebook. More than 20% stated that when it comes to breaking up, they would change their status to single. And, another 35% in the survey revealed that they updated their status to show that they were having some plans, while actually they didn’t. It was more of an effort to avoid the unusual bad date. Facebook offers another feature where you can completely eliminate your ‘Ex’ from your life, at least the Facebook ‘life.’ There is the usual photo memories box on the side of the page that displays the photos of friends you may know. However, Facebook has recently changed the algorithm that wouldn’t display the photos of a user with whom you had been in a relationship in the past. Thus, at the stage Facebook has reached today it can be said that if breakups are taking place on this platform, it has certainly become the new form of communication. But, in the best interests of you and your loved ones, it’s good to avoid Facebook.
