There is no good or bad luck but consequences. The attack on Ziarat residency must be seen in this light, Security in Balochistan is based on a ranker inspectors perceptions.This includes all civilian and military officials specially the highest ranks and appointments. Pashtun areas are regarded by the agencies and army as safe while Baloch areas are regarded as occupied as well as enemy areas. The blue land is Pashtun and Foxland Baloch ! This is the perception of the 14 FF company commander ! I thought this was 1986 ? Mr Jinnah may be Pakistans founder but he is regarded as a vampire by many Baloch who feel that Kalat states accession to Pakistan was obtained under Mr Jinnahs stewardship at gunpoint ! The Ziarat Residency symbolised colonial occupation which many Baloch feel continued under Pakistan.The only change was a darker , craftier albeit phenomenally inefficient Punjabi master ? Thus the Ziarat attack ! Symbolically brilliant , strategically masterly , archaeologically in bad taste ? It is simple to attack Ziarat. From Gumbaz to Duki and Ziarat you are hardly checked anywhere . Task a carrier from Kharotabad in Quetta to deliver few RPG 7 and grenades at Ziarat.Travel to Ziarat and check in in a nice hotel ! Sip some Stolichnaya or Grey Goose and have some tasty Balochi sajji . Take a stroll to the residency and boom boom ? The expense of the whole operation is trivial but the damage and impact phenomenal and strategic ! But could our company commanders and ranker minds think strategic ! Balochistan is not Punjab ! It may be backward but it has produced General Sheroff and Mir Hazar Khan Ramkhani who excelled and outstripped Che Guevera in what we call war in shadows.
