There is no justification for torture in the 21st century. It’s - TopicsExpress

There is no justification for torture in the 21st century. It’s a written rule codified and made official since World War II, and it’s been an element of human morals since the dawn of pacifism. The whole thing was intensified with the Human Civil Rights movement, and since then the Western world has felt pretty comfortable as being the moral leaders of civilization. In theory. In reality, pretty much anyone who looked knew that we still did some scary shit – and now it’s no longer a conspiracy theory. So what is wrong with this world? It’s mathematically simple, almost. We live in a society where there exists the need to torture people, whatever that need may be – from national security to human psychopathy. To eliminate torture and widespread, official, systematic, institutional human rights violations, we need to eliminate all need and justification for it. Eliminate the hate, the borders, the fear and insecurity, the poverty and hunger – eliminate the scramble for resources and constant nagging scarcity. And that’s an insanely daunting task. Until we get together and devise ways to tackle it, all we can do, however, is protest, and spread information. Push agencies to do the people’s will, support organizations that fight for transparency, and try to divide news from propaganda. The first step to addressing the torture perpetrated by the CIA over the course of years is complete – acknowledgement. Now that the US has revealed that, just like any other large nation, be it China or Russia, it has some pretty significant problems – and if it truly wants to celebrate “exceptionalism”, it has to go through with the second step – prosecuting absolutely everyone involved in this, and ensuring transparency to make sure it doesn’t happen again. The same goes for the countries hosting the US’ so called black sites – secret prisons used to interrogate and torture illegally apprehended “suspected terrorists” – of which there are a whopping 54, including countries like Germany, Poland, the UK, Iceland, Finland, Turkey, Indonesia – and the list goes on. That’s a quarter of the world’s countries, and some of the biggest, at that, like Australia and Canada. - See more at: ift.tt/1Boa6MG DatSyn News - With the CIA torture report ends do not justify the means
