There is nothing in us that can ever merit peace with God. It is only through the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (by faith in Him alone) that we can have forgiveness of our sins, redemption, salvation and the hope of heaven and eternal life, peace with God... We have no righteousness of our own with God - it doesnt matter how moral we think we are - we may abstain from all manner of sin and lead outwardly clean lives and still be utterly lost and headed for hell. It is only by Christs own righteousness granted to us BY FAITH that we can ever be accepted by God and have a right standing with Him (justification). All our religion, good deeds, morality - if we do not have true faith in Christ alone - will carry us to hell just the same as if we lived our lives constantly committing the worst outward acts of sin. Renounce not only sinful but religious self. - John Flavel
