There is nothing like getting swarmed by three cuddling dogs. And there is nothing more precious than Murphmonster, softly muscling his way up front, sprawling purposefully but gently across your chest, as if to let the others know, This one is mine. Collect your token affection and move along. I hate to play favorites. Hate to be that guy. The little one cuddles well, except in bed when she gets right up on or near your head. Shes small and intelligent and an older soul youve never met. The other one, the lab, well, she tries. Shes sweet. Maybe not horribly intelligent. Rescues, they are both so terribly needy. But Murph. Murphinator. MurphMonster. My very best good friend. When he needs out, he lets you know. When he needs food or water, he lets you know. When he needs affection, or play, he lets you know. He takes and receives love with understated gusto (except maybe when you arrive home, when he might go a little wild, but its better than Prozac mixed with cocaine and high end call girls, so youre good with it). He is rarely needy. He is always alert. Always protective. Ready for violence if needed, but seems to prefer cuddles. Mostly. He is a dog fit for a man. Or maybe a child. Or maybe thats the same thing.
