There is now, and always has been, this, since the colonial powers sliced and diced the world to suit their needs. We have an easier time with accepting the label terrorist rather than freedom fighter, as long as it is applied to someone other than those revered as American freedom fighters. Just suppose the British had won the revolutionary war. Paul Revere would have been historically recorded as a leader of a rebel group at best, and a terrorist at worst. Perhaps the British might have provided superior arms to the Native Americans or Mexicans to tip the balance. The impact of British colonialism has been forgotten by most Americans, but that does not apply elsewhere.
