There is of course the aspect of what value does a country get for its subsidies? Every Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen, that drives around anywhere in the world also signals the three words "made in Germany" selling and promoting an extremely wide range of engineered products from tools to handmade shoes. Australia has no manufacturing industry left nor do we export our cars with our specific Aus branding. In fact Aus made Fords or Toyatas actually signal American and Japanese values here in Australia, therefor promoting products of those countries here at home.And we pay for that!
