There is such a thing as too much information. As great as the Internet and social media is, sometimes I wonder if its it helps us to know what we know or not. For example - If you go on a date, and the person says theyll call you or text the next day. They dont but you see them all over FB - so you know theyre capable of calling or texting, they just havent. In my case, I have an adopted son whose birth mother decided she did not want to be contacted by us, just wanted us to send annual letters through the adoption agency annually - who would then forward to her. As my son just had surgery, my limited knowledge about his birth familys health history was a cause for concern. Also - he is beginning to ask a lot of questions about his birth family. So, I found his birth mother on Facebook. I have watched her posts and viewed pictures of the life she earned when she placed him with us for adoption. Every day I have to fight the urge to contact her and to respect her request NOT to be contacted. I war with my heart and mind as my concern for my sons grows. I want him to know his birth family. I dont know if being able to know what or how someone is doing via Facebook is better for us, or if it simply becomes self-inflicted torture. Discuss.
