There once was a great tzaddik/righteous man who was able to - TopicsExpress

There once was a great tzaddik/righteous man who was able to learn Torah for a very long time without stopping for a rest. In fact, when it came to Shabbos, he would start learning on Friday afternoon at chatzos, and continue straight until midnight on Motzaei Shabbos! He would stay up for over thirty six hours learning Torah and doing the mitzvos of Shabbos without resting at all. He was so absorbed in his learning that the light of the Torah would shine from his face. When asked how he could do this, he answered that this was how he understood the meaning of a Shomer Shabbos, one who keeps Shabbos. “A shomer is a guard and a guard has a job to do. A guard who sleeps is not doing his job! How can I call myself a Shomer Shabbos, a guard of Shabbos, if I go to sleep on Shabbos?!” (Devarim Niflaim al Shabbos Kodsheinu, p. 124)
