There seems to be a lot of quires about wristbands and JCR fees, as well as other questions the JCR thought we would put together a little how to survive freshers post. How to survive freshers fortnight- 1) Before arrival DONT worry about every little detail in the build up- e.g. if you forget to buy cutlery we are in Reading not at St Andrews, we have plenty of shops within easy travel distance to purchase such items. Also along the line of worry you are not going to be the only person in you flat or on your course so dont panic if you cant find anyone- the chances are you will find at least one or two in your flat/townhouse and course mates are easily made at induction sessions- remember EVERYONE is in the same situation. 2) What do you need to know before arrival- Firstly, we your JCR are here to help you guys out with anything we can (this is for your full stay in Bridges not just freshers), so rather than posting questions and quires on here we have created an email account where you can send these, then we will 100% see them. The email is- bridgeshall@outlook 3) JCR FEES- Continuing on the JCR theme your JCR fees are of vital importance to the success of your year, they do not go towards paying us (JCR is voluntary and payless) and are not spent on anyone but Bridges Halls Members- YOUR FEES 100% go back to your enjoyment of your freshers year via trips, parties and events we organise for you. We are already looking in to a welcome formal a few weeks after the end of freshers. To be involved in any of these activities you must have paid your JCR fees- they usually make the price heavily discounted if not totally free- like the London Boat party organised by some of this JCR last year when they were on the Childs Hall committee. HERE IS THE LINK- store.rusu.co.uk/browse/extra_info.asp?compid=1&modid=1&catid=183&prodid=2350 4) FRESHERS FORTNIGHT WRISTBANDS- Purchasing one of these is the only way to keep up with your halls during freshers week- they will also be for sale when you arrive. They include 10 amazing nights out including a club night in London for £45 which is very cheap. Remember to also buy your £10 bus ticket to London as well. The rest of your themes will be released later today and we will release week 1s venues on Friday. The JCR are also looking in to getting hold of freshers fancy dress packs for you- some of which will be able to be won by some of you- More information to be released shortly. We are doing a mixture of nights so you will be able to experience most of the night life Reading has to offer- however if you want to know more about what goes on please send us an email and we can tell you more about the large variety of events in Reading. SO BUY YOUR BANDS HERE- https://rusu.co.uk/ents/event/1645/ Hope this all makes sense, and any questions please send them to the new bridges email account. JCR Love x
