There seems to be some confusion about how our league chooses to - TopicsExpress

There seems to be some confusion about how our league chooses to do our fundraising. I would like to take a minute to explain why we do what we do. This is my 5th year serving on the board. I have experienced several different fundraising activities over the years. Some have failed, and many have been a huge pain on the parents. Im not sure of how many people enjoy selling raffle tickets, candy bars, etc. I DONT and honestly, I think a lot of people in our community are tired of buying them. Last year our board did some brainstorming and came up with a way to raise money in a way that parents and children enjoy. The event competition, $10 wristband, was a huge hit for all. The kids are competing for a trophy, parents are enjoying watching their kids, and the league is raising money all at the same time. Why do we raise money?? We have to pay umpires, buy food to sell in the concession stand, uniforms, insurance, equipment, and prepare for hosting district tournaments. This year, our main goal was to build 2 batting cages for our boys to use. The nets alone cost $850/each. Many people have no clue of just how much it costs to run a league. Its unbelievable! Everything we raise goes directly to the players in some way or another. Opening ceremonies are done to introduce each player, coach, and team. It is a special night for the kids. Anything after that is just family fun! The wristbands are not mandatory! If you do not want to participate, you do not have to! If anyone would like to make changes on how things are done, I ask that you show up to the annual board meeting and volunteer your time like we do. With all that being said, I am speaking on behalf of the current 2014 FBL board, and we are very excited for this season & look forward to making everyone happy! Please know that you can always see a board member with any concerns! We will do whatever we can to make everything run as smooth as possible!
