There was a rich man ... and a poor man named Lazarus. Lazarus - TopicsExpress

There was a rich man ... and a poor man named Lazarus. Lazarus spent his life looking from the outside in. He watched as the rich man feasted; as the rich man stayed warm; as the rich man drank heartily. While theres no problem with enjoying the blessings that God gives to us, the rich man failed to extend the blessings of his life to the poor Lazarus. Any one of us could be the rich man. Like him, we can remain nameless and uncaring. The extension of the story beyond death stands as a stark reminder that the justice of God will level the field in the end. We now have the chance to look from the outside in: we can peer into the judgment that will be ours when we fail to care for the poor--the very message of todays parable: to repent of selfishness and use our God given gifts for the good of others now. Lent is a good time to assess our Christian life according to the word of God. His word alone places us in a unique perspective whereby we can see life and eternity enabling us to repent, respond, and come to have eternal life. Lord, may we give others a voice simply by opening our ears and minds and hearts.
