There was an amazing open letter to Nicolas Cage in Movieguide - TopicsExpress

There was an amazing open letter to Nicolas Cage in Movieguide this week, and Ive included the link here. I hope a lot of Christians take a few minutes to read it. After the personal attacks Nick received for associating himself with a Christian movie, especially one with an edgy message (not just another Jesus loves you movie), who could blame him, or any Hollywood star, if they chose to run away from future projects like this one. Its hard not to think its just not worth it. Calling Nicks performance horrible in Left Behind is just stupid. He was great in Left Behind, and almost everyone without an axe to grind, agrees with that. If someone disagrees with the theology, thats fine, it doesnt make his acting bad. If you dont like anyone other than outspoken born again believers being used in Christian movies, thats fine, it doesnt make his acting bad. If you dont think there was enough Jesus and heavy scripture in the movie, thats fine, but it doesnt make his acting bad. And if Nick Cage is not living the life you to the high standard you have set for yourself, thats fine, but it doesnt make his acting bad. Personally I was embarrassed by the attacks that came from Christians, not only on Nick but on everyone else involved in the movie too. The secular haters I not only understood, but expected. After all, you cant hate Christians and love their movies. But when the ugly side of the Christian world was laid bare, that made me sick to my stomach. It wasnt everyone of course, not even close. But nor was it just a few. Twitter and Facebook, and blog comment threads give EVERYONE a voice, and what those voices said was frequently just plain mean. Not constructive criticism that you might give a bad movie, but a hate-filled attack on real people who took a chance and agreed to jump into the lions den and get involved with a Christian movie. Rest assured, independent faith-based movies are going to have a pretty tough time attracting the kind of talent that those same angry Christians have been demanding for years. Why would they? They can go do pretty much any kind of movie and not be afraid of this kind of attack. For faith based film, Left Behind was one step forward and three steps back. - Paul Lalonde (writer, producer) movieguide.org/news-articles/open-letter-nicolas-cage-critical-christians-left-love.html
