There was drama last week when two corrupt Police Officer fled from a road block they had mounted near Nyanda Lodge just outside Masvingo when their seniors pitched up suddenly and wanted to carry out an inspection to find out if they had any money on them. Acting Police provincial spokesperson, Kudakwashe Dhewa said he was not aware of the issue. However, it has become common for the Police press department to decline to comment on negative issues involving members of the force. The incident was reported to the rest of the force through Circular 36/14. Four Police officers, namely Constable Dumba, Constable Changwara, Constable Chikofa and Constable Mukono were deployed at Nyanda at around 5pm. Four members from the internal investigations department arrived and introduced themselves to the four constables. File Photo But during the process of introduction, Constable Dumba and Changwara allegedly started running away, leaving the other two frozen like the Biblical Lot’s wife at the scene. The two were searched and were found with $31 and $32 and R50 respectively and were taken to Rujeko where the arresting details left their reports. The two officers who ran away pitched up at the station later and reported that they ran away because they thought that the internal investigators were robbers who were up to get the State money that they had. We are reliably informed that the four have since been suspended pending investigations.
