There was not much for doom or ambient that caught my eye this year, but the credit for the most doomiest-but-not-actual-doom release goes to darkjazz veterans Bohren & Der Club of Gore, a definite contender for album of the year for me. A heart-felt thank you to my special someone for getting me this on vinyl. Bohren asses the night. Where Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation are the dismal, orthodox and experimental take on this, Bohren are the depressing and film-noir originators. They are the wings upon which darkness sits, and they assume this in all aural forms possible. Using tempos that are beneath 30bpm, their hypnotic and often melancholic way of soundscaping is second to none. Perfect for reading, and perfect for a suicide underneath streetlights. Few bands achieve what Bohren has, and there is little room for other projects to ever achieve what they have. In description, theres not much to say about the instruments themselves, other than the fact that they are exactly what the album title is. https://youtube/watch?v=aVnLon8TvXk
