There was pandemonium on Monday when some lawyers and officials of the War Against Indiscipline in Edo State clashed in Benin over an alleged flouting of traffic rules by one of the lawyers. PUNCH Metro gathered that trouble ensued when the female lawyer sought the intervention of her colleagues from the premises of a nearby court, after she was accosted by some WAI official for flouting traffic rules along Sapele road. Chairman of Edo WAI, Engr. Babatunde Olukoga said the lawyer flouted traffic rules and she called her colleagues, instead of following the officers. Two vehicles belonging to the agency, including a towing van were allegedly destroyed by the lawyers during the fracas. He said, “When she was arrested, she tried to cause problem. Rather than obey and follow the officials, she went to the court premises and called her colleagues. They intimidated the officials, our vehicles were destroyed and almost arrested the boys before I came in. “The lawyers were claiming they have the right to disobey any law and that we don’t have right to arrest them. We believe that they should obey the law because they are to prosecute offenders.” Babatunde also claimed that the Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association, Oriane Akere, had agreed to fix the damaged vehicles, an allegation the chairman denied. He told our correspondent that the windscreen of the towing vehicle was smashed by a man who ran away and whom the NBA could not identify as a lawyer.
