There were these aristocrats, Tôm, Dîçk and Hârry, who’d been condemned to death during the French Revolution. They’d been assigned a particularly sadistic executioner who insisted that they be positioned face up on the guillotine block with eyes pinned open by matchsticks. However, he was nonplussed when the blade hurtled to a shuddering halt an inch from Tôm’s Adam’s apple. This was deemed to be an act of God, and Tôm was allowed to go free. It was the same with Dîçk who, likewise, was permitted to walk from the scaffold, weak with relief. Next up was Hârry, but as the drums rolled and the tension built, he beckoned the executioner with his forefinger, and whispered, ‘I think I can see what the problem is’.
