Theres A) general curiosity which is about understanding the world thoroughly, seeing and grasping the causal chains, the reasons, the possibilities; generalizing concepts from sensations, with a willingness to question all of one’s (culturally biased and emotionally prejudiced) assumptions and preconceived ideas; deeper understanding, multiple frames of reference, transformative potential, the ability to see in unique ways and create unique things in the world; asking deep, probing questions; generating original ideas about the topics at hand; engaging in creative problem-solving; imagining multiple perspectives or divergent possibilities; struggling to make sense of the world around us; a strong desire to learn through invention and re-invention, through learning, unlearning and relearning, through the pursuance of restless, impatient, continuing, hopeful inquiry, and to apply what is learned; and a fiery love for truth, knowledge and wisdom in and of itself. Thats the curiosity of the ingenious people. And this mental approach or attitude cannot be imposed or reliably taught. It must be REALIZED by the individual. This is why self-awareness is so important. Then theres B) the interest towards random facts, random news, meaningless gossips etc., which do not build up a sound system or stable and consistent thought process/mindset, theres no true progress of the understanding of the subject matters, the next day you forget what you were curious about the previous day. The B) is much easier, superficial dopamine-shortcuts-related time-wasting drive for pseudo knowledge (rote memorization of facts or perhaps more accurately: culturally influenced theories and interpretations presented as “pure fact” and truth). Ego, vanity, self-conceit, arrogance, obstinacy, a frivolous nature, a desire to rationalize ones yuppie lifestyle, a strong yearning for the world and a passion to dispute every argument on account of ones ignorance; these are some of the many reasons why the B) types remain B) and can never become A). For example the TV shows for knowledgeable participants are for ones of the B) type, where theres no thinking, just useless collection of unconnected facts - viewers tend to prefer such shows, too, because the result is enough - either the participant was correct or wrong. She just has to be correct in order to earn the prize: $$$$$ The thing that interests the masses... And the questions and knowledge - its just a way to prove that somebody deserves the prize etc. There must be some kind of an obstacle. What is the capital of Djumbu-Gumbu? Who was the 3rd president of the country called Bamba-Lamba? How much an airplane ABCD weighs empty of cargo? What does karbashinda mean? Do dogs like to eat djibirimbi? or 10 things you should know if you live in so and so city. 15 signs of a bad boyfriend. 25 reasons why she is bad for you. 9 things you must achieve before you turn 40 in order to be successful. 17 things every person in their 20s can relate to. 13 reasons why so and so person/thing is hot this season/year or even Posting things like: So and so politician/leader exposed. Leaked video of some celebrity/famous person. What some columnist/anchor/talk show host/whistleblower said about someone else. Youtube video of some unconfirmed and unverified isolated incident. Footage of some politicians abusing/hitting each other. Article about some insignificant event (which will not change the condition of the poor, or make the price of rice and petrol go down, or end crime in the city, or make peoples lives better and safer, or end the status quo, or make the ruling oligarchy/elite relinquish their power and authority). Opinion of the category B) type people (ignorant/stupid majority/general public) about some political leader or situation/crisis. MEMEs (popularly shared images and quotes of some prominent persons who probably didnt even say what is attributed to them) about love, relationships, marriage and the philosophy of life. Who gives a shit?
