Theres a story here that someone needs to investigate. Vladimir Putin who was a two-bit spy is now the richest politician in the world worth between $40 & $70 billion. Thats $20 to $50 billion more than the Sultan of Brunei & dwarfs Betty Windsors take at $450 million. Hes only been in the plunder game a few decades; her ancestry has been ripping off the body politic for a few centuries. Hes almost as rich as Carlos Slim, the Mexican thief whos the richest man in the world. His rise to financial glory on the backs of working people & the corpse of the USSR must be quite a disturbing & ugly series of intrigues. How else does a poor schnook go from snooping on people in East Germany to vast but secret holdings in oil & gas? Has anyone written with any cogency on the transition from the USSR economy (with all its distortions) to gangster capitalism? Ah, the regrettable legacy of Stalinism.
