Theres a woman who shows up on the corner of the shopping center - TopicsExpress

Theres a woman who shows up on the corner of the shopping center parking lot by Harris Teeter with three children and a sign asking for help. She says they stay in a motel, and shes always going to meet with her social worker next week and just needs some help till then. A couple times Ive given her money, and once I bought her a rotisserie chicken, because she said that would be a good meal for her family, but today I just said Good morning, and waved to the kids, as Id greet any of the other people I meet casually in the neighborhood. But I felt guilty, and I wondered what I should do to help; I worry about the kids. They are dressed warmly, and they dont look undernourished, but fast food and food that can be heated in a microwave in a motel room doesnt sound like a balanced diet--and I wonder what it does to their sense of themselves and the world they live in to be panhandling with their mother every time theres a school holiday. How do I seek and serve Christ in all persons, and respect the dignity of every human being? The begging woman troubles me--as she should. Where does her need call me?
