Theres been some talk about MRAs recently, so here are some thoughts about it. This is a long post but please persist so that our discussion can be good. Women should have equal rights to men. Plain and simple, right? So it is possible to be a Feminist in support of mens rights. It just means to support equality. But, here is a HUGE flaw in the MRA movement that they themselves have overlooked: the anti-Feminism sentiments that they peddle are the flaw. Let me explain. When someone is anti-feminist, it means that they do not support gender equality, because all Feminism is, at its very core, in each new wave, is about equal rights for women. The MRA movement throws around statistics about how men are wronged, but all of the situations they describe are constructs of the Patriarchy. So men in support of the Patriarchal system, consciously or unconsciously, have they themselves created this society that harms women AND men, and now they blame Feminism for it. Bizarre, right? Examples: The MRAs complain that men work longer hours and at more labor intensive jobs. My response is Well, duh! Until a few decades ago women were discouraged from working outside the home and few women are hired for labor because there is this stereotype that women are not strong enough for it. I currently live in a place where they cant legally keep a woman from going to welding school, but good luck finding a job. The employer wont outright discriminate, of course. Hell just say that they found someone more qualified. In much the same way that Feminism does not take away rights from men while granting them to women, getting rid of Feminism will not help the MRA movement, because the societal setup that we currently call the Patriarchy is harmful to women and men. There is plenty of evidence to back this up, some of it is posted in this group. In summary, being FOR mens rights does not automatically make one Anti-Feminist. However, the MRA radicals tend to fervently believe in Anti-Feminism without any knowledge of what it really means. In this will be the failure of that movement. They should stop calling it Mens Rights Activism, and rename it : People Against Womens Rights. I am for mens rights. But I am also for womens rights. The part about womens rights makes me a Feminist. Your turn. Go!
