Theres no doubt that free trade agreements have screwed America through the years. I guess if your a devout worshiper of free market capitalism you might make a good theoretical argument so long as you ignore the results for this nation since the mid seventies when the U.S. went from a fat surplus to 40 some straight years of astronomically growing deficits, from a time when the biggest employers were manufacturers, auto makers, ect, to now when the biggest employers are low paying retailers and the like. Thing is, we cant even get our free trade agreements right. NAFTA cost American jobs but it did help the economies of Latin America and Mexico before we undercut those deals with China. Would we even have an immigration problem if the massive trade deficit we have with China was replaced with massive deficits with Mexico and Latin America? If were gonna run huge trade deficits why not do it with our neighbors and not an increasingly militaristic giant five hundred billion miles away? Oh yeah, I know, profit for the sake of profit with no moral compass involved.
