Theres this wild web of relationships that holds us and every year on this day, I remember how powerful this is. For a word girl, every sentence here--words that remember, words that build up and words that celebrate--give me Life. It may have taken me 42 years, but I am so aware of the GIFT of the PEOPLE in my world. - How there was a phone call from South Africa from parents who *ALWAYS* remember and make us a priority. - How Telah and Gabby B. held out their offering to me this morning--a basket of goodies made out of rainbow loom elastics. - How Gabi keeps bursting into the Happy Birthday song every few hours. - How Shay comes and hugs and hugs and hugs me every time he sees me today. - How Scott took extra special care with the words in his card. - How Scott works hard to fill my cup all year long. - How a friend drove across town to hand me a card and a Mighty Kale. - How another friend left a thoughtful gift on the porch. - How the birthday wishes started from Australia and Asia and worked its way around the world. - How our LifeGroup girls brought a pink cake with an inch of icing and chunks of fresh pineapple and brownies and homemade tapioca pudding and how we sat around the table on Thursday night, present to each other. - How, after nearly 15 years in North America, I have found the voices here that feed my soul. - How kale growing wildly on a small lot of farmland in the middle of the city can get me to stop my car and take in ALL the glory on a Saturday morning. - How my sis-in-law can get me to tear up, because they remember and they are so far away and yet they are FAMILY and we share this life. - How my Canadian family are lighting up our little WhatsApp group chat with beautiful wishes and how other friends are calling and texting. I am feeling the gifts everywhere today. Beauty, kindness, thoughtfulness, presence, remembering. My heart couldnt be more grateful. Thank you for all your goodness, kindness and Love towards me. Thank you for being my people.
