There’s an update on Houston Mayor Annise Parker, who tried to subpoena five area pastors, to make them turn over any sermons or other communications in which they might have voiced opposition to a new gay rights ordinance. She backed off the demand for sermons – maybe because my suggestion that pastora mail her sermons and laymen mail her Bibles is reportedly giving her mail carrier a hernia. But she’s still pressing the subpoena for all non-sermon communications, in a clearly unconstitutional intimidation tactic. The pastors aren’t even part of the lawsuit that the subpoenas spring from. This has sparked outrage across the political spectrum. Even an attorney for the Obama Civil Rights Commission has written the Mayor a very stern letter. It shows what can happen when Christians get sick of being targeted by their own governments and fight back. There will be a rally in Houston on Saturday, November 2nd to make that point. I’ll be there. I hope you will, too. If you cant make the rally, please sign our petition in support of the Houston Pastors at ISupportFreeSpeech!
