These are NOT isolated incidents by a few bad cops. Police State USA: Land of the Checkpoints Morgan County AL -- A woman says that an officer got violent with her for no reason during a traffic stop. On July 29th, 2013, a male and female were driving home from work when they were pulled over by a Morgan County Sheriffs Deputy right outside Huntsville, Alabama. The passenger, Stephanie Cook, contacted Police State USA with her story. She said Officer Coburn pulled them over literally for no reason. Cook wrote: The cop talked to the driver then asked me to step out of the car so I did. He said he smelled marijuana which was a complete lie. I said one sentence: Im sorry but youre mistaken. Then the officer grabbed me by the throat shook me while saying WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? over and over. He left bruises all over me like I was a rag doll and even pepper sprayed me for calling him out AFTER I was cuffed and in the back of the squad car. I was arrested for disorderly conduct, two assaults on an officer (for spitting out pepper spray that landed in my mouth), and resisting arrest. The driver was also arrested for disorderly conduct, for saying things like stop while I was being choked. He wrote us both a ticket for no seatbelt and no insurance. We had insurance and were wearing seat belts. My lymph nodes under the handprint [on her neck] were so swollen that it gave me a high fever and my wrist has permanent nerve damage which I can do nothing about.
