These are exciting days at Terra Flora, as our bee hives begin their natural process of reproduction through swarming. In this amazing ritual, a new queen is “inaugurated,” as she flies high into the sunlight to receive cosmic impulses that will nurture the formation of a new hive. The swarming process insures the genetic health and natural immunity of the bee colony; so tragically misunderstood in modern bee-keeping methods that utilize practices such as artificial grafting of queen bees, clipping of the queen’s wings, or the false stimulation of royal jelly to produce queens that are sold and shipped to other parts of the world, completely out of context with the natural reproductive processes of the hive. These and many other bee-keeping practices, along with chemical contamination of plants and diminishing biodiversity are severely threatening the health of bee populations across the world. As Albert Einstein warned: “If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, humankind would have no more than four years to live.” For without bees, most seeds and crops could not be pollinated. Even beyond the agricultural significance of the bees are their spiritual gifts. Here at Terra Flora we cherish the gift of the bees daily, recognized what amazing gifts of vitality and soulful connection with the cosmos they bestow on our flowers and indeed the whole of the land organism.
