These are often found in pairs in our community- where undisturbed woods remain intact. They will roam other areas, but need nesting and refuge areas where human disturbance is minimal. They hunt rodents, small reptiles and rely heavily on other birds such as house sparrows and various doves. Neither of these populations is threatened and in the case of house sparrows(actually a non-native finch), a control is welcomed. We have a pair that share territory with us and Im trying to teach some neighbors that shooting them to keep them away from your neighborhood-roaming chickens is a huge no.
