These are the top 10 finishers at the 2103 California Combat Match. LTC MILLIKAN 822.379 SPC IANNIOS 740.862 SSG MORENO 693.587 SGT LABISTRE 683.563 SFC APPLEGATE 682.829 SFC BAYARD 637.095 PV2 QUIOCSON 616.946 SSG DEVEMARK 606.862 SPC FURUBOTTEN, E 604.325 SSG PAYNE 600.272 Notable performances at this year’s match: In Unit Competiton the 184th Infantry won the Trophy as the best shooting unit in the state, followed very closely by the 160th Infantry. LTC Millikan was the 2013 State Champ, outpacing SPC Iannios who finished in second place trailing LTC Millikan by 82 points. LTC Millikan set the winning time in the Rifle El Presidente match and earned the high score in the 9 minute match with 310 points of a possible 400, tying last years winning performance by 1SG Shannon. SPC Iannios still had an all around solid performance that bested 129 other Soldiers and Airmen in the state. SSG Moreno won the EIC Rifle match with a score of 162, and the Tyr Run event with a time of 10’:20” SSG Moreno is no doubt the greatest runner on Team California. He has racked up several 2nd place finishes at the Audie Murphy match at Ft. Benning U.S. Army Small Arms Championships. At first glance one would never choose SSG Moreno as the fastest man, but make no mistake he is a powerhouse. For SGT Labistre this was his second CCM and he posted a remarkable score of 290 in the 9 minute match – he was within one shot of first place in the 9 minute match. SFC Applegate the current U.S. Army Small Arms Champ, posted the winning score in the Devils Playground event; a match that requires the shooter to move through a variety of shooting positions while engaging near and far targets and shooting on the move from one position to the next. The Devils Playground event is scored based on speed and accuracy; no other competitor came within 20% of his score. To say that SFC Applegate is quick is an understatement. For SFC Bayard, this was his first CCM. He posted consistent and solid scores in each event. He will no doubt only get better. PV2 Quiocson is a relative new comer to the Army and his raw talent shined through at the match. With a little coaching he is certain to be one of the best shooters in the entire U.S. Army. There are many different disciplines in military competitive shooting. Team California competes in all of them but not always with the same competitors. Combat Shooting matches include the CCM, the Marksmanship Advisory Council (MAC) VII Regional Combat Match, the Winston P. Wilson National Guard Championships (WPW), and the U.S. Army All Army Small Arms Championship (“All Army”). California uses our state match – the California Combat Match or CCM, to create an order of merit list from which the State Marksmanship Coordinator chooses team members from. This years CCM will provide the order of merit list used to select members of Team California which will represent California in FY14 at all of the combat matches. Team California is typically composed of 10 members. The team is broken down into two, four man “squads” – “A” Squad and “B” Squad. “A” Squad can be thought of as the “First String” or “Varsity” squad. Each squad has two “old” shooters and two new shooters. An old shooter is one that has represented California before on an “A” Squad. Each year we take the two best “Old” shooters and the two best “New “ shooters and place them on “A” Squad. The next highest old and new shooters are assigned to the B Squad. Finally the next two old shooters in line by virtue of their performance at the State match are placed as Coach/Alternate. 2014 Team California is A Squad -- B Squad -- Coach/Alternate (next highest ranking old shooters) LTC Millikan -- SSG Moreno -- SSG Devemark SGT Iannios -- SFC Applegate -- SSG Ice SGT Labistre -- PV2 Quiocson SFC Bayard -- SPC Furubotten, E The team will represent us at all FY 2014 Matches which include the 2014 U.S. Army Small Arms Championships, the 2014 MAC VII Regional Combat Match, the 2014 Winston P. Wilson National Guard Championships. There are other matches outside of the Combat Marksmanship shooting discipline that other shooters may represent California at. These include the U.S. Army Long Range Match, the NG Sniper Challenge, MGM Ironman Match, Biathlon matches etc.
