These are the two mothers of the nine kittens we are caring for near Ruffsdale. We helped to get them neutered this week. Such a great feeling to know they won’t be producing more kittens! Last weekend, two of us went to replenish the food supply and see how the kittens are doing. It was wonderful to see them sitting in the sun and chasing imaginary critters as little ones do. We also took along two more of our insulated shelters, and noted that the shelter we had previously put in place is definitely being used. We could look under the deck and see little faces peeking out of the openings in the shelter. The kittens still seem small for their age and several are scratching, indicating we need to get some flea treatment. A friend of The Cat Committee, someone with lots of experience dealing with kittens, will make a visit soon to assess whether the babies are big enough to start being vaccinated. This is outside our area of experience, so very grateful for knowledgeable friends, willing to assist. Still hoping that some adoption agency might take these kittens in, but meanwhile, we need to do all we can to keep them safe, warm, fed and healthy where they are.
