These elections are not just about the Presidency. We have to look - TopicsExpress

These elections are not just about the Presidency. We have to look even closer at the governors and be careful who we ascribe the title of performer to. Lets take a look at Amaechi in Rivers State. Ever since that bonehead BBC Hardtalk interview, I have held the view that his mouth will kill him in the end. And so it is proving. Watched a video posted by Sola Kuti last week, I. Which he boasted about his school revolution. When it came to that part, the total disconnect of our leaders from their subjects became all too apparent. Amaechi had the idea to build international school standard edifices for his people. The total plan called for 24 such schools, but his government has only built 7,but get this - only one is open to students. Apparently, the State government cannot afford to run the others because in their wisdom, they have contracted the management of these edifices to Indian companies for N800 per annum. No be me talk am. Na from Amaechi mouth gan gan I get this gist. Aside from the issue of waste of resources and building local content, any businessman will tell you there is an item called depreciation in any well presented budget. The RVSG, has spent billions of Naira building these 7 structures only for 6 to be laying fallow. The cost of just keeping them in shape until government finds money to operate them (a remote possibility giving current realities) can only be imagined. Yet, this man was at the vanguard of the calls on the FG to be sharing revenue to governors to complete their projects. Lets just look at some of those projects - a bird nest stadium, 6 un-used schools, N100m beds, a mansion in Katsina and another one on the way in Bayelsa. Can you see where some of that oil money we claim was embezzled went? Shine your eyes well well. ~ Wole Solanke
