These larger-than-life bronze sculptures commemorate the Run of settlers who had a race to peg and claim government land made available after it had been confiscated form the local native American tribes and turned into an homogenous Indian Territory reservation for many displaced tribes, causing a legacy of despair for the dispossessed. Several greedy settlers jumped the gun for the commencement of the Peg and Claim Race and snaffled the choicest land unscrupulously. These selfish types were called the Sooners. Amazing sculptures, placed along the Canal through the Bricktown area of Oklahoma City.
