These musical instruments are found in the Old Testament; Cornet, - TopicsExpress

These musical instruments are found in the Old Testament; Cornet, Cymbals, Dulcimer, Flute, Harps, Organs, Pipes, Psalteries, Sackbut, Tabrets, Timbrels, Trumpets and Viols; but they are not mentioned anywhere in the New Testament, except John’s mention of harps in his vision into heaven, and the Trump of GOD when Christ returns. Rev 15:2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God. 1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: This is the only specific New Testament references to instruments of music; in heaven, and at the end of time, but none in the time period in which we live. Paul said: 2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: Hence, Psalms being a part of “all scripture” it is inspired of GOD; and Psalms is filled with examples of people praising GOD with musical instruments; and the Old Testament book of Psalms is referenced to by Jesus, Peter, Paul and James in the New Testament. So, instrumental music must be OK. Hold on, we need all the information offered. Let’s look further (6 verses): Jesus said that Psalms contained prophesy of him (Luk 20:42; 24:44). Peter said that Psalms called for replacing Judas (Act 1:20). Those three verses don’t address music but the last three do. Paul wrote the following two verses: Eph 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And James had this to say: Jas 5:13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. These verses say we are to speak, teach and admonish ourselves, in Psalms, hymns and spiritual songs, sing, singing with grace and making melody in our hearts to the Lord. Again there is no mention of instrumental music HERE or anywhere else in the New Testament which pertains to worship. We are COMMANDED to sing; we are not commanded to play instruments; the Christian instrument is the heart. We are to sing and make melody in our heart to the LORD. Therefore, it has to be an un-scriptural practice to include instrumental music when we worship? Jesus said: Mat 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. Vain = 1. Empty; worthless; having no substance, value or importance (Webster); a waste of time. (Wade)
