These past two weeks have been especially difficult for our family. She was taken via ambulance to the hospital again. She needed 3 units of blood and had to have her arm surgically repaired due to her cutting an artery this time. She had never recovered from her severe depressive state she was in from her previous attempt, and we knew this. Both Stacey and I took turns sleeping in her room or where we had direct sight of her all night. She told us repeatedly that she hated us for saving her, and was determined to die no matter what we did to help stop her. She had no hope and could not see that there was a way she could ever be happy or recover from this. Her depression had taken control of her every thought, and there was no reasoning with her . We tried to keep her in the hospital last time until we could get her into a long term facility, but she was released against our will. So we had to take action. We found a facility that we toured on Monday that was perfect, but they could not get her in until April 7, so we knew we would have to be on suicide watch every day and night until that day came. Despite our best efforts she planned out her last attempt and cut her arm through the artery under the covers as to hide it from us even as we were watching her. Here is where God and your prayers come in!!! She tried to get out of bed for some reason and passed out. Her falling to the ground is what woke Stacey up. When she found her there was so much blood on her bed and on her she couldn’t tell where the bleeding was coming from. Savannah was barely conscious, but was able to respond. She told Stacey that she had only cut her wrist. There was NO active bleeding at that time. She was cold, clammy, pale and her heart was pounding. She told Stacey that as soon as she hit her artery it squirted her in the face and she instantly said to herself “ I don’t want to die any more” She told me that she heard a voice in her head say it is not your time yet. The bleeding had miraculously stopped somehow at our house. In the ambulance she barely had any vital signs , and they were not able to get an IV . When we got to the ER, it was the same staff we had two weeks ago, and they remembered her. They were wonderful. They had two IVs in her immediately and she got 3 units of blood. But as they were trying to get IVs started her artery started bleeding again. They tried to stitch her up in the ER but couldn’t stop the bleeding. They applied direct pressure for 45 minutes but were never able to get the squirting to stop. She ended up having to go to the OR and have a vascular surgeon repair the vessel. Her bleeding should not have stopped at home. We believe she had a miracle happen that kept her alive until we could get her help. While in the ER she said to Stacey “Mom, I really am sorry. I really don’t want to die anymore.” This is the first time she has eve said this. Her attitude was completely different from then on. She told us she wanted to get better, and couldn’t wait to be a happy again. She wanted to go to this facility and get better. Her Drs told us they would not release her until she had a bed in a long term facility. The staff and myself had to make many calls to find a place for her to go. Ultimately my phone rang , and the place we toured and originally wanted to send her called and said we have a bed, she can come tomorrow. Savannah said she was just praying for God to open up the place He wanted her to be, and before she said amen, my phone rang. She had to willingly sign herself in, and she did. She was very very anxious, as were we, but she did it. Her new doctor at this facility evaluated her and told us that she is one of the worst cases he has seen. We were also told that by her own Psych Dr , and the Dr in Brandon hospital. He has a great plan of care for her at this time. He believes he can treat her and help her have a great quality of life in the future. Leaving our baby was the hardest thing Stacey and I have ever done. We know she needs to be there, but we miss her . We firmly believe that without Gods hands on her, and your prayers the outcome would have been very different. Thank you all so much for interceding on our behalf. Savannah cannot have visitors except Stacey and I, but she can receive mail. If you feel led, please send her a letter. She could use all the encouragement she can get. This is very difficult for her. Thank you all again so much for the prayers that have gone out for her. We feel so blessed The address is: La Amistad C/O Savannah Chamberlain 1650 Park Avenue North Maitland, Fl 32751
