These stats are important but not because they apportion death between two nationalities and reveal that one is powerful and the other is occupied. Their importance lies in the fact that everyone killed (and injured, displaced, repressed) is a victim of the same immoral, illegal, and ill-conceived project. Zionism insists, at the very least, that a minimal concept of ethnicity confers special rights on some and not others. In the Zionist view, the principle right is the to ownership of any land mentioned in their own holy text. Critics argue that this is an absurd notion in the 21st century.
