These two preachers were going after the same church when a senior pastor position came open. One was educated and highly qualified and the other was just an old country boy who was not eloquent at all. They both preached and the church decided to hire the old country boy. The more qualified educated minister went back to the church to see why he was not hired. The chairman of the pulpit committee told him that it was a hard decision but both him and their new pastor preached on hell. The difference was the country boy preached it with tears in his eyes and you preached it like you were happy some would be going. Paul said to the Corinthians, when I came to you I did not come with excellence speech but I was determined not to know anything but Jesus Christ and Him crucified. Paul used plainness of speech because prior to his going to Corinth, he went to Athens (see Acts17). In Athens, he used philosophies, poets, mans wisdom and not much got accomplished. The sermon on Mars Hill, scholars would say that it was an excellent sermon. But not many got saved. Most mocked him and some said they would hear him again later. This experienced got Paul back on track to preaching the simple gospel. A great church was planted in Corinth. Not much was ever done in Athens. To you preachers, preach the simple message of Calvary. The Holy Spirit works with the simple gospel, When He comes He will testify of me. Preach tomorrow simply and with sincerity. The gospel should be presented so a child can understand it and the Scholar will be amazed by it. In the name of Jesus preach! Preach with tears! Preach with all your heart. If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God! God chose the foolishness of preaching. Preach with power! Preach with conviction! Preach Jesus!
