Thesis Statement: (**Is Google part of the capitalist world?) Google provides resources in a sense of free accessibility but subjected to a consumerist schema. Body --Entrance to the Google system is free but access is actually limited o Registration to Google functions are limited to certain uses until further premium subscriptions which requires monetary fees o For premium features, for example in Google books, Google Plus, Google Drive, Google apps and other Google functions, gaining access to their materials and resources, involves payments and/or partnership --Possible varieties or options of searches are open to the public but their sources (other website companies or owners) usually have bought their way up to be part of the top options o Products and information from different sources usually come from huge companies that have the resources to buy advertisements and spots on the internet o Google connections with other websites, people and businesses (ex. Google ads, Google work & Google apps) generate profits --Google’s control over the internet is a tool that gains power o Domination over other websites and companies o Buying off competition and assets (ex. Aardvark (another search engine), Meebo (Social networking), and Twitch (gamers platform and community)) o Data gathering from users and consumers looking at consumers’ interests and behaviors for profit o Leading to the creation of Google businesses and materials (ex. projects such as Google X, Google Ideas, Google schools, Google shop, Google+ Brands and specific materials such as Google Chrome and Google apps) Conclusion o Google has expanded its wings from being a search engine that gradually holds and gathers almost every speck of information in the universe, to the discovery of the world’s interests, marking its domain to the fields creating them: science, technology, education, and others, where desires and needs of this world are converted to profit.
