They came, we left- Written by Taye. W ............................................................ This is the start of my novel, The secret world. let me know what you think :) I heard the dirty, white moving van’s wheels squeal to a halt and the doors slam shut. My dark, brown eyes flung open and my dreams of flying above the salty ocean and diving into its depths dissolved away, along with my peace. My face immediately scrunched up into a frown. This was not going to be a good day. I threw my blankets off my worn bed with a burst of frustration. I CAN’T BELIEVE MY MUM IS DOING THIS TO ME! My bare, white feet pound on the cool tiles and my arms swing up and down in a hurried manner. Thump! The first ducted tape box of my life has been packed into the moving van. Before long, everything I knew would be taken and moved across the country. Ok, I am exadarating a little. But the principle remained. I was not going to let them do this without a fight. “What do you think you’re doing?” I asked in a voice as hard as stone. One of the removalist turns to look at me, with his face etched in confusion. ‘Why was a ten year old girl telling him what to do?’ he probably wondered. So I had to let him know I meant business. “I SAID, what do you think you’re doing with my stuff?” This time the other man turns and motions to the tall thin lady in a black pencil skirt and a pair of blood red leather heels. She turns swiftly on her sole and stares at me with her dark brown eyes. God I hate my mum. “What are you looking at?” I ask. Mum looks at me and sighs. “I’ve told you before Susannah, we are moving to Winterlybrooks, and there is nothing you can do about it” “But Mum, do we really have to move?” Her long, pale fingers tapped on the glowing, blue screen of her silver Blackberry as she walked slowly to the car. A finger clicked send and she placed her phone in her right pocket. “You are beginning the get on my last nerve Susannah, we are moving, with or without you and that’s final” Benjamin, her revolting, teenage brother, rolled his dark brown eyes and quickly claimed the right back seat of the car and began to play his shiny new game console. Without taking his eyes off the screen and his fingers still tapping the buttons, Benjamin said; “Would it kill you both to stop fighting? Just get in the car Susie and stop making a fuss” I hate it when Ben gets involved, I always give in. I groaned and hopped into the car and didn’t speak for the whole trip, only watched as the town passed by. Benjamin didn’t talk much either. He knew when to leave the battlefield. I looked over at Ben. He had long brown bangs that hung over his eyes and a face full of even angles that could have been drawn with a protractor. He was wearing a pair of dark coloured jeans and a loose hoodie that showed his hidden muscles that he earned from playing high school football. But that doesn’t mean he is stupid or anything. Ben gets straight A’s in almost every subject except English. He was the dream boy that every girl wanted. But the only girl that Ben ever wanted to impress, our Mum, is only disappointed. I’d pretended I hadn’t heard, but Mum and Ben have been fighting an awful lot lately. Manly about something called university, but it hurt a lot to know that if Ben could disappoint mum, then imagine how disappointed mum would be when it came time for me to pick a career. I sighed and closed the book that balanced on my thigh. This was going to be a long drive. .......
