They did it again. Senate Republicans have once again blocked - TopicsExpress

They did it again. Senate Republicans have once again blocked the extension of unemployment insurance benefits for 1.5 million Americans who lost their jobs because of the worst recession since the Great Depression. We will not let it stand. Senator Jack Reed and I are circulating a petition calling on the Senate Republicans to finally join us in helping unemployed Americans and their families. Will you add your name -- and your voice? Sign our petition to the Senate Republican leadership today -- and help make sure they get the message on unemployment benefits! This is exactly the kind of emergency spending that shouldnt require offsets. Yet, it is so important to extend these benefits that when Senate Republicans demanded spending cuts to pay for it, Democrats said yes. Its so important that when Republicans went further by then demanding votes on more amendments, Democrats said yes. So on Tue‌sday, when they still blocked our efforts to restore benefits for these 1.5 million Americans, it became clear that Senate Republicans just dont want to take yes for an answer. It seems like the GOP is basing its decisions not on the current economic conditions -- but on the current occupant of the White House. They are turning their backs on our struggling families and endangering our fragile economic recovery. And, they need to hear from you. Add your name to our petition now, and tell Senate Republican leadership: Its time to stop playing games and extend unemployment benefits. These American workers lost their jobs through no fault of their own. Never before has the Senate failed to renew these modest benefits with long-term unemployment so high. Weve done it before without playing political games -- and its time for the Senate to do its job again. Will you help? Sign our petition now. Tell the Senate Republican leadership its time to act to help 1.5 million Americans and their families! Thank you for speaking out.
