They hurled insults at Him. He looked up to His Father Jesus, I look up to You The soldiers crucified Jesus with the written notice of accusation on the Cross: ‘This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.’ Then they sat down and watched Him and people passing by hurled insults at Jesus, taunting and challenging Him to come down from the Cross to prove that He is truly the Son of God. The teachers of the Law and elders jeered at Him. ‘He saved others but He could not save Himself…He trusts in God’ (Mathew 27: 42-43) they exclaimed. They all wanted Jesus to perform something spectacular to prove Himself. Oh yes! If they wanted to see something spectacular, they got it. Jesus breathed His last and then ‘the earth shook, the rocks split apart, the graves broke open, and many of God’s people who had died were raised to life (Mathew 27:51-52).That made the soldiers exclaim: ‘He truly was the Son of God.’ Jesus, You looked up to Your Father when they hurled insults at You. Jesus, You were pure and innocent and You merely followed Your Father’s Will. Jesus, when they hurl insults at me, mock me, ridicule me, I look up to You.
