They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears - TopicsExpress

They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; one nation shall not raise the sword against another, nor shall they train for war again. -Isaiah 2:4 December 1, 2013 First Sunday of Advent Today we begin the four weeks of Advent that prepare us for Christmas Day. Christmas and its message of peace on earth is something we need very much today. The prophet Isaiah saw that peace would only come if there was a transformation from war to education for peace. It is all too easy to be pessimistic, as we read and hear of widespread terrorism and violence. Yet Advent faith means that God is with us. God is Emmanuel, struggling with us to be peacemakers. We can do our part in small ways, beginning with our everyday relationships. May we be a bit more patient, gentle, and respectful – a bit more peace-filled – in our daily encounters with both friends and strangers.Christ came into the world to do good to all. Grant, O God, we may prepare to meet Him. Grant that we may be watchful in avoiding everything that can be injurious to our neighbor. In all things may we follow the spirit of charity, bringing comfort and relief to all, as far as their circumstances shall require, and ours permit. Grant, O Lord, that we may prepare to meet our redeemer. Amen-John Goter (17th Century)
