They were also to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD. They were to do the same in the evening... 1 Chronicles 23:30 When we think of religious attendance, we think of it as a once a week commitment. In Davids plans for the temple, the priests were to thank and praise the LORD twice a day. There was no outline of thanks and praises to give, only to give thanks and praise the LORD in the morning and evening: the first and last moments of every day. When we limit ourselves to a religious observance, we stop giving thanks and we stop praising the LORD: qualities that should be a part of our every day. When Paul wrote to the early churches, he called them a priesthood of all believers. There is unity and honor when we accept this role. Unity, in that we encourage one another in our praises and thanksgiving. Honor, in that we recognize this is a special task, and we have been chosen to do it! Performing at the temple was a privilege, not an empty bore. Every priest wanted to take part in it, but in Davids time only a few could serve at a time. Today, the priesthood of all believers can worship together daily. We have a free pass to glorify God together, including special times when we praise and thank him. Not just at a physical temple location, but at the many temple locations of the Holy Spirit. When we consider those who only practice once a week, theres not much benefit. When we see people who practice five, six days a week we see impressive growth. When we watch those who practice twice a day we see the strongest of the strong, who if they had more time, would be practicing the activity they love. It is the love of God that should move us into action. It is the love of God that moves us to praise and thank Him. It is the praising and thanking of God that reminds us how He loves us.
