Theyre out! LC BGPAC ENDORSEMENTS!!! US Congress: We give the nod to Donna Dunn- L. Visclosky (D) wants to drain our economic development money for a train legacy and Leyva (R) although a perpetual challenger has no solutions to offer. State Senate: Senate District 1: We see no reason to replace incumbent Frank Mrvan Jr- D at this time. Senate District 6 is an open seat since Senator Sue Landske is retiring. We give a slight nod to State Rep Rick Niemeyer- R because of his experience in the legislature already. Wed like to see another woman in this spot someday as Senator Landske was a great role model! State Representative: Dist 1- Incumbent Linda Lawson-D and challenger (oops, no Republican challenger. Lawson gets in by default) Dist 2- Look at the Times interview and I think you will agree that incumbent Earl Harris- D should stay until someone with more community and leadership experience emerges. Dist 3- Charlie Brown- D and challenger (oops, no Republican challenger. Brown gets in by default) Dist 11- This districts state rep vacated his seat to run for another office. It is currently open. No endorsement here although Aylesworth’s flyers have no appeal and Metro’s flyers are non-existent. Dist 12- It’s time to change this district to someone who can work with the legislature and not run away to IL when the going gets tough. We endorse William Fine- R Dist 14- Incumbent Vernon Smith- D and challenger (oops, no Republican challenger, Smith gets in by default!) Dist 15- This will be a race to watch as hundreds of thousands of dollars are pouring in on both sides. Slager, who is close friends of Speaker Bosma led the charge to eliminate the freeze on our local property tax levy. Perhaps if he was there a few years earlier we wouldn’t have had the local option income tax imposed on us. We support State Representative Hal Slager -R Dist 19- What has Shelli done for constituents with her time downstate? Nothing. Time for a change in District 19. We support Julie Oltoff- R Sheriff: Time to get politics out of the Sheriff’s office. Besides, with the Sheriff’s new political duties, he has less time to devote to the region’s safety. We endorse Dan Bursac- R County Assessor: This is a no-brainer. Incumbent Jolie A. Covaciu -R has done a great job in the past year since her predecessor passed away. Vote Covaciu! County Council: District 1 incumbent David Hamm- D although supported the county option income tax, the challenger did not even fill out his Times Survey District 2 incumbent Elsie Franklin- D has been absent too many times and not serving her constituents. But her challenger again did not take the time to even fill out a simple survey. No endorsement. District 3 we have newcomer Jamall Washington- D fighting to keep Jerome Princes seat against Michael Shawn Sanders- R. Neither candidate filled out a Times’ Survey. No endorsement and we hope the people of the 3rd county council district find a better candidate next time around. District 4- Another race to watch. Endorsement is clear here. Katy Dowling blew the incumbent out of the water in her interview. nwitimes/digital/video/candidates-for-lake-co-council-district/html_910fff73-f779-5c64-be5a-e333017f9f41.html District 5 is incumbent Christine Cid- D who has a good LCBG voting record due to her fiscal responsibility being re-elected without a challenger District 6 incumbent Ted Bilski who has led the council to increased spending does not have a Republican challenger and will be re-elected District 7 incumbent Eldon Strong -R is facing his first county council election to keep his seat against challenger Ronna Lukasik-Rosenbaum –D. Although Rosenbaum states she will never vote to increase the county income tax, Strong voted against it with a plan to reduce waste. We support Strong.
