Thighs/Quads - Part 2: The Vastus Medialis Obliquus (VMO) or the lower area of the inner thigh. The VMO is very important part of the Quadriceps muscle group whos role is largely to strengthen and stabilise the knee joint as we bend and straighten it through exercise or general movement. Pain along the front or anterior part of the knee joint is a very common problem with people today and is known as Patellofemoral Syndrome (PFS). This can often be treated and cured through the correct strengthening exercises. Heres one great exercise for strengthening the quads with focus on the inner thigh/VMO and the keys to the movement: Heel Drop: -start in a standing position on an elevated step up box -bringing one leg forward off the edge of the box angle the heel downwards as pictured below -bend from the knee of the stationary leg and control the movement downwards until your heel touches the ground -make sure not to push off your lower foot, but to contract your VMO muscles to move back to a straightened position -maintain a strong posture during the movement and avoid curving of the back or excessive hip bend AS ALWAYS our trainers are here to help and its our pleasure to show you correct technique for any exercise - Just Ask! :)
