Things I Never Imagined Prior to My Adventure 1. Airport security - TopicsExpress

Things I Never Imagined Prior to My Adventure 1. Airport security and cats- I put Peri in a harness in case the guards wanted me to take her out of the carrier. Not only did they want her out of the carrier, but we had to take the harness off as well! “Please carry your cat through the x-ray machine. Now I need to wipe your hands WHILE you’re holding a terrified animal”. Really?? 2. When you have 3 suitcases and a cat, get a luggage cart. This sounds like common sense, but it doesn’t cross your mind until all 3 suitcases are off the conveyer… 3. I knew Diakonie was located throughout Bavaria, but had no idea of quite how much until I saw a map. 300 sites, oh my! 4. Reading appliance instructions- while I expected people to speak a foreign language and signs to be unreadable initially, I somehow never considered that the appliances in my building would not have English labels!! It made for an interesting first use of the washer and microwave. 5. Teaching new English phrases- driving around Munich, Kerstin and I saw a small festival being constructed at the same time as the Oktoberfest tents. She said it was a small copy of the real festival and I responded, “Then it’s a Fauxtoberfest!” I am glad my English contribution here can be how to combine two real words to create something ridiculous. 6. How much heavier a small bag of groceries feels after it is carried up 5 flights of stairs. In my mind, I thought about it beforehand, but the reality is much worse. Overall, there are many tiny details I did not expect before my arrival, but everyone has been so pleasant and helpful everywhere I have been {contrary to what the Guidebooks say ;-)}.
